Cranial Sacral Therapy is a method of bodywork that works with the bones of the skull and pelvis and cerebrospinal fluid in the body. Cerebrospinal fluid is the fluid that coats the brain and spinal cord. It has a pulse of its own as it coats the brain and spinal cord, much like a respiratory rate or a blood pulse. In this modality, light touches, or holds, are used along the body to adjust the bones of the skull and pelvis to allow cerebrospinal fluid to flow freely and with no restrictions, as well as to induce what is known as "unwinding"; a literal unwinding of tight or contracted muscles throughout the entire body.
Because this type of bodywork works with the Central Nervous System (CNS), we are in fact working with the body's inherent ability to heal itself. Your body was designed with the ability to maintain health and wellness through the autonomic nervous system, which means it already knows what it needs to do in order to heal itself. Cranial Sacral Therapy accesses the autonomic nervous system to allow the body to be in such a state that it will alleviate symptoms on its own, which is what makes this therapy so effective. While using this method of bodywork to target specific symptoms, Cranial Sacral Therapy will balance the body as a whole to bring you to a state of general health and wellbeing.
This method of bodywork is considered to some to be much less invasive than Massage Therapy and is oftentimes more effective with longer lasting results. Different from Massage Therapy, Cranial Sacral Therapy is performed with the client fully clothed on the table. Please be sure to wear comfortable clothing that is easy to move in, such as exercise clothes.
